What Is Bishop Castle?
Bishop Castle is a one-of-a-kind structure built entirely by one man — Jim Bishop — who has been constructing it by hand since the 1960s. No blueprints. No construction crew. Just one person's vision, determination, and decades of hard work rising up from the San Isabel National Forest.
The castle features:
- Towering stone walls and turrets
- Hand-forged iron bridges and railings
- A massive dragon head at the top that breathes fire
- Winding staircases that take you higher and higher into the Colorado sky
- Panoramic mountain views that make the climb absolutely worth it
Where Is It?
Bishop Castle is located near Rye, Colorado, about 2 hours south of Colorado Springs in the San Isabel National Forest. It's free to visit — though donations are appreciated to help Jim continue his life's work.
